Student Support

ACP staff help with studying, assessments, accommodations, language, and counseling. Students can get extra support from a student officer who may recommend external services. International students receive free support but might need to pay for outside services.

General English Program Details

The program aligns with the CEFR levels, ensuring students meet proficiency standards at each level.

Elementary
(CEFR Level A1)

Can understand and use basic everyday expressions and phrases to meet specific needs. Can introduce oneself, ask and answer questions about personal details, and interact simply with help.

Pre-Intermediate
(CEFR Level A2)

Can understand and use basic sentences and expressions related to everyday topics like personal information, shopping, and work. Can communicate simply and directly about familiar tasks and describe basic details about themselves, their surroundings, and urgent needs.

Intermediate
(CEFR Level B1)

Can understand and discuss familiar topics encountered in daily life and work. Can handle most situations while traveling in a foreign language area. Can write simple texts on personal interests and describe experiences, dreams, hopes, and reasons for opinions and plans.

Upper Intermediate
(CEFR Level B2)

Can comprehend complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field. Can engage fluently and spontaneously with native speakers without difficulty. Can create detailed texts on various subjects and discuss different viewpoints on current issues, outlining pros and cons.

Advanced
(CEFR Level C1)

Can comprehend complex texts and infer implied meanings. Can communicate fluently and confidently, using language flexibly for various contexts. Can create detailed, well-organized texts on intricate topics with clear structure and cohesive elements.

Assessment Methods

Assessment will vary every week and may include reading or writing or listening or speaking tests, oral presentations, role plays, writing summaries, writing dialogues etc.

Entry Requirements

Placement Test

Students will be required to take placement test to prior to commencement.

Low Proficiency Accepted

The institute can accept students with very limited English proficiency, even at a very low level, into the Elementary course.

Minimum Age Requirement

Minimum 18 years of age prior to enrolment

  • E-S.1 Can have short discussions on familiar topics with some difficulty
  • E-S.2 Can express ideas with some fluency giving some reasons
  • E-S.3 Can speak for basic purposes appropriately
  • E-S.4 Can use pronunciation of consonants, vowels, stress and intonation with occasional unintelligibility 

Reading

  • E-R.1 Can skim and scan simple texts for main ideas (gist) and keywords
  • E-R.2 Can read simple texts for detailed information
  • E-R.3 Can follow a writer’s argument and reasoning in short texts
  • E-R.4 Can identify and recognise features of basic text types and genres
  • E-R.5 Can use basic reading strategies to answer questions about a text

Writing

  • E-W.1 Can write about basic topics in a limited range of writing formats
  • E-W.2 Can develop basic ideas with some supporting reasoning and some examples
  • E-W.3 Can use basic writing features such as punctuation and spelling
  • E-W.4 Can use basic linking between ideas coherently

Listening

  • E-L.1 Can listen for the main ideas (gist) and keywords on familiar topics
  • E-L.2 Can listen for detailed meaning on familiar topics
  • E-L.3 Can recognise and follow speakers’ basic attitudes and purposes
  • E-L.4 Can use basic listening strategies to answer questions

Grammer
